Yap Hup Kee Yong Tau Foo, Pudu

Have you been in a predicament that you want to order every yong tau foo that you set your eyes on?
That you know you should stop piling more YTF on your already spilling plate?

I think I'm under YHK's spell as every time I'm there, I'll do exactly that..hehehe

Mabel introduced YHK to me about 8 years ago, and I've been a fan since...

I decided to bring Bernice recently, knowing that she has never tried YHK YTF before..
I'll usually go to YHK for lunch as there are more YTF choices compared to dinner time. Though YHK is always very pack during lunchtime, ordering is very prompt (just choose the YTF you want at the entrance) and food serves rather fast too.

My default dish would be the very addictive chee cheong fun..

Served with sweet beanpaste sauce and crushed dried shrimps, this dish is so addictive that I had to restrain myself from ordering a second plate (knowing I have over ordered my share of yft..hehe). Though they also serve loh shue fun and other noodles with mince meat, I am loyal to the CCF...
Based on your selection of YTF, they will either deep fry it or cook it with broth..
We had a selection of fried stuff, Bernice gave me free reign to choose the YTFs. Obviously I choose my faves..;) There was the ubiquitous brinjal and fook chook; I'll always have the dogbone (well, that's what it looks like to me ;)) which tasted like fried vegetarian goose; the fried wantan look-a-like (filled with chopped yam, carrots and salted egg yolk) and fried taufoo which is filled with fish paste and salted fish.
For the soupy YTF, we had siu bak choy, stuffed broccoli with fish paste, bitter gourd and porkballs. I love YHK's soup base, using char choy (a type of preserved veg), this is so, so tasty! It goes really well with the YTF and I always make sure that we'll have some broth YTF because of the soup....
Last but not least, I must mention on YHK's fried pig's intestine.I never eat such stuff years ago. I thought it was disgusting. YHK converted me. Though I'm still particular with pig's intestines dishes, this is one dish that I'll devour with relish..
YHK also serve pretty good sui kow (both fried and soup) which you can opt for the normal soup (aka with char choy) or with herbal claypot soup, which is also tasty.. We didnt order that coz minimum order was 5 pieces and we were just too stuffed to eat any more!
Oh, by the way, I find the addition of the ordering bell really handy (compared to 8 years back) as service was really prompt.
So, did I make Bernice a fan of YHK? You guess right, I sure did!

Kedai Makanan dan Minuman Wong Kee, Pudu

You must try the siew yoke at Wong Kee! I told CW some 9 months back as he is a pork lover.
It's sooo, sooo good! I exclaimed, though I didnt have it for a few years already..
So, while the cat's away, the mouse will play..
In this case, my boss was not in recently, I managed to convince CW and Bernice to have Wong Kee's famous siew yoke (roasted pork). It was rather early when we reached Wong Kee, we still had the luxury to choose our seats..
Ordering was prompt, waiting was rather long though...
After some time, craning our necks, checking on the busy owner busily chopping away, we finally have the plate of siew yoke.My goodness, I had to do a double take as it looks like it was glowing!! *background music: hallelujah! hallelujah! hallelujah!...* :-D
Though the breathtaking siew yoke was sitting there looking all pretty, beckoning us to eat it..We did not have our rice yet! The wait was excrutiating :-(
Bernice and CW attacked the siew yoke the moment we get our cutleries. Silence ensued..
I took a bite of piece of siew yoke....
Tasted terrific. The skin was crunchy; meat was tender and juicy; the fats, pratically melts and glides down my throat. The most amazing thing was, the siew yoke was still warm, even to the last piece. Drizzled with that sauce...The combination is just...Potent...
So, how was it? I asked, after witnessing CW and Bernice gobbling down the siew yoke..
This is The best siew yoke I've ever tasted, CW exclaimed. When are we coming again? he asked, while eating the last piece of siew yoke
I looked at Bernice. SC, I dont eat siew yoke at all. Always thought it tasted porky. But this..this! I'm bringing my hubby this saturday!
Guess I've converted Bernice ;-)
Our total bill was RM39, not cheap at RM12 per siew yoke strip, but man, it's worth every ringgit of it... :-)

Beef noodles, Pudu

Ok, ok, I know Pudu has got a few beef noodles shops and I would love to have it's name up on my post, most unfortunately, this stall is a shack without a proper signboard..hence..

My boss saw this place when she was over at Pudu to buy Tong Kee eggtarts and she recalled that this stall has been there for decades. Wanting to try it (and also to buy more tarts), we popped over recently to have the noodles. To my surprise, the noodles was prepared by a man, maybe in his early 30s..eh, I thought this stall has been in business for decades? I presumed he's the son? Anyways, we placed our order and was promptly served..
I had dried beef loh shu fun ( a type of noodles, directly translated as rat's{tails} noodles) with ngau chap (mixed beef parts). Quite expecting some mince meat that's dark like Soong Kee's , this stall's version is light, with no dark soy sauce added to the noodles (nor to the mince meat) at all. Looking all plain and rather unattractive, I took a mouthful..and all i could say is..never ever judge a book by it's cover. This was so delicious, the mince meat well marinated, the noodles springy, the sauce (yes, there's some clear broth/sauce) was so tasty, I can have just this bowl of noodles without the ngau chap..
The ngau chap was served in a dark coloured soup, akin to BKT..Took a sip of the soup, it actually tasted like a cross between BKT and lok mei (a chinese herb soup) soup. Rather different in taste, some may not like it though. My colleague was not very happy, he said that the owner was stingy with the ngau chap. Each of us had 2 beef balls, 2 slices of beef, 2 brisket and one slice of lean beef. The beef balls were mediocre, I have tasted better. The noodles costs RM4.50 per bowl.
What Julianne thinks?
Delightful and unassuming
Beef noodles (it has a small chinese sign called ngau wong, directly translated as cow king in canton) is located at Jalan Brunei, Pudu. Drive along Jalan Pudu (from Pudu jail) towards Pudu area. Turn left when you see a Caltex (at the corner). Once you turn, you will see the beef noodles stall/shack on your left)
