Lou Wong Taugeh, Ipoh

Our last stop before heading back KL, we detoured to Ipoh..
Since we had Onn Kee on our way to Penang, we decided to have Lou Wong instead...
We had the usual fare..
The chicken..
The plump beansprouts..
The porkballs
The smooth hor fun Somehow, I find Low Wong's dishes saltier. Even the hor fun's soup is doused with some soy sauce and some other salty seasoning. Those who prefers salty food would like this I guess.
Lou Wong still remains as popular as ever, by dinner time, it was packed to the brim.
For me, I prefer Onn Kee next door.
Restoran Lou Wong Tauge Ayam Kuetiau is located at 49, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.

Restoran Onn Kee, Ipoh

Last weekend, we went for a short trip to Penang..well, you've guessed it, it was an eating trip :p
And first pit stop for us was Ipoh, for some bean sprouts chicken (ngar choy gai) and we went to Restoran Onn Kee.
Onn Kee is as famous as Lou Wong, another ngar choy gai establishment located just a few shops away. They have their own fan base, though there's also a number of people finding it over rated.
Me? Well, as long as it taste good, it dont really matter being over rated or not..hehe
My first visit to Onn Kee was about 7 years back and I do pop by here whenever I'm in Ipoh.
Usual orders would be the beansprouts
Short, juicy, plump sprouts looks so gorgeous compared to Klang Valley scrawny, dry version. Delicious. And we always wonder why. And we'd always answer to ourselves..must be the water in Ipoh..haha
I've always loved porkballs..but they recommended a mix of fishballs and porkballs I still prefer the porkballs with the strong cuttlefish flavour. Yummy indeed. Fishballs paled in comparison.
Some hor fun (flat noodles) to go with the ngar choy gai..Dry version and soup version. Very smooth and just glides down our throats. Must be the water in Ipoh..hehe
And the other star that completes the ngar choy gai pair..
the chicken..The chicken meat was smooth, juicy and sweet. Though it does not look that appealing, the skin had a lovely texture; springy and smooth. Soaked lightly in the sauce, the combination is very tasty indeed.
Total bill was RM36.40 (for 4 person)
We left Onn Kee with a very full stomach, but we still managed to have a bowl of lovely tau foo fah before we left for Penang..woohoo
Restoran Onn Kee(Tauge Ayam) is located at 51, Jalan Yau Tet Sin, Ipoh.

Lo Wong, Sunway Mas

Yes, yes, you would be thinking of the Lo Wong taugeh chicken in Ipoh.. I was told that this is their branch in PJ.. nonetheless, I did not check with the proprietor, so I shall not confirm on this info :p. I have been to Lo Wong for a couple of times already as its very near my home..
Elaine, Alicia, Jon and SL joined me for lunch after helping me clean up my condo (thanks all!). Lo Wong had make it easy to order with their "set meal" of taugeh, chicken and choice of side dish (of fish balls, porkballs, chicken parts, braised chicken feet with mushroom and sometimes, curry chicken/braised pork). So without fretting too much, we ordered meal for 5, with porkballs and curry chicken for side dish.
Elaine and me decided to have these with rice while the rest ordered kuay teow (dry/soup)....
The food was served promptly....The taugeh looks juicy and plump, so very tempting! I took a mouthful and yes, it is that juicy and plump :). I liked the way Lo Wong cook the taugeh, just rite, not too raw (with those 'green' taste) nor too cooked (till its soggy). Nice.
Their version of chicken aka bak cham is pretty good too, the skin smooth, the meat tender and the sweet salty soy sauce complements the chicken well. You mix in your own chilli, garlic (or like my Klang frens, with dark soy sauce) and in no time you'll be gobbling down the food :p. I thot this is as good, or maybe better, than Jalan Gasing's taugeh chicken.
Porkballs were springy and flavoursome, with chopped cuttlefish mixed in it which enhances the porkballs flavour. One of the girls commented that the size of the porkballs were smaller here compared to Jalan Gasing's.. but hey, I'm quality over quantity anytime, so still think this is good :)
Sadly, the side dish of curry chicken was nothing to shout about. Rather plain curry actually, you may want to opt for other side dishes instead...
What Julianne thinks?
Value for money, filling and good
I did not manage to get the address, sorry mates.. Just drive towards Aman Suria (near Tropicana), at the Sunway Mas area. Same area as Restoran Chan Kee, after passing Jin Shan Cheng, turn right, drive straight, Lo Wong is on your left side, corner shop.
