The Coffee Bar, TTDI

WF told me of Coffee Bar recently, her boss told her of the place, purportedly good for coffee and nasi lemak bungkus. But her boss has iffy taste, we were not too certain if we should try. Then again, she went there based on a recommendation of a customer, so maybe the customer's taste was better.hehehe.
Finally popped by on a Sunday morning, very quiet, we were the only customer for the morning. Though it's forte is coffee, none of us seemed to crave for coffee, and settled for teh tarik and milocinno instead..
Teh tarik was fine, not too sweet..
The Milocinno has very little hint of coffee, it was predominantly milo.
Nothing fancy nor surprising.
We wanted to try the nasi lemak bungkus, but was told that the first batch was fully sold off, we would need to wait as they were still cooking the second batch.
So, we agreed to wait and while waiting, we were recommended to try the Chicken Curry Laksa (RM7.50)
Generously filled with shredded chicken, see ham, tau pok and beancurd, it does look inviting. However, taste wise was mediocre, the curry was not fragrant and had the 'powdery' feel to it.

Finally, we got the piping hot nasi lemak bungkus (RM1.60)
A rather small portion, I was immediately disappointed with the lack of banana leaf with the nasi lemak. I always prefer my nasi lemak bungkus wrapped in banana leaf- the aroma of the leaf permeated into the hot, steamed rice further enhancing the overall nasi lemak experience. The rice itself was ok, the santan's fragrant, slightly wet (i prefer dryer, distinguishable grain type). The sambal was chinese sambal type, with a lot of onions. The accompanying peanuts and fried ikan bilis was undeniably fresh, gives a nice texture to the nasi lemak.

Restoran Jaya, SS5, PJ

Early morning and I met Diha for breakfast before we went for our appointment..
She wanted me to try a place nearby; a place her family go to if they wanted a quick, satisfying kelantanese breakfast.
We ended at Restoran Jaya...
The food spread, though not extensive, looks fresh and inviting..
Diha had some nasi kerabu with chicken..
By the speed she was gobbling it down in gusto, I believe it's good?

I had lontong..
The soup was too sweet for my liking; the nasi impit was a tad under cook, but the sambal sotong's delicious though. More peanut sauce would have been better. Gerai Cek Nor's lontong is definitely way better..
Some pulut pagi
Very sweet like any other kelantanese kuih I guess..Fragrant with gula melaka and very soft. Rather lovely I must say.

We also had roti canai, which I didnt take a picture of..
But let me tell ya, the kuah dhall kari for the roti was fabulous! It's the best I've had in Klang Valley so far, really reminds me of the delicious kuah served in Kelantan/ Terengganu whenever I have roti there..yum yum.

Nasi Lemak Cikgu, Kelana Jaya

Alright, after quite a number of non halal posts, think it's high time I post a halal one? ;p
WF asked if there's anything different from the usual haunts near my area..
and I thought..What about nasi lemak Cikgu?
She was so excited (since she have not tried it before), it took quite an effort for her not to drag me out from my house immediately..
Chill woman, chill...
So there we are, in less than 10 minutes (yes, it's that near my humble abode...).
It was rather quiet at the eatery, we were the fourth customer..
I thought Nasi Lemak Cikgu is famous? WF whispered..
Erm, yeah..
Then where's the food? WF asked uneasily..
Looking rather scarce, Nasi Lemak Cikgu serves nasi lemak with a choice of fried chicken or sotong. No other lauk, no rendang nor kerang..
Poor WF looks disappointed..haha
So we had nasi lemak with ayam goreng (fried chicken) The rice was fluffy, warm and fragrant; the chicken, if you managed to get the freshly fried ones, was juicy, sweet and tender. The marination was rather light, yet distinct. As for the sambal, it was very watery, with lots of onions. It's the sweet spicy type, so some would love it, while others wont be impressed at all..
The nasi lemak with sotong..The sotong was cooked in some peanut-satay like sauce which was surprisingly tasty. Some of my friends preferred the kuah sotong over the sambal..
Though WF was not blown away by Nasi Lemak Cikgu, we can safely say that this place serves a nice nasi lemak, but not impressive. Makes me wonder why it's so famous....

Nasi Lemak Cikgu is located at 14 Jalan SS5B/2, Kelana Jaya, 47301 Petaling Jaya. At LDP, drive pass Giant Hypermarket (on your left). Drive further down LDP, you will see the gray/ metal Kastam Building. Turn left, drive straight pass the first traffic light. You'll see a field on your right, turn right after the field. Nasi Lemak Cikgu is in the middle of the row of shops.

Village Park, Damansara Uptown

What?!? 8:00 am?!?
That was the main grouse when Lyrical Lemongrass suggested to have breakfast at Village Park last saturday. She said Village Park serves nasi dagang in the morning and usually sold out before lunch....
Though I was sorely in need of sleep and was still full from previous night's dinner ( dinner ended about 11 pm), a promise is a promise, so I was there slightly after 8 am..
Saw Lemongrass almost immediately, seated strategically, all happy and bubbly looking; she must be a morning person..hehe..We chatted for a while and precious pea joined us soon after. Not wanting to miss the nasi dagang, we ordered while waiting for the rest to arrive. Kenny mah decided to pop by for a surprise visit, still taking a hiatus from his blog..Wmw and her friend, and boolicious came soon after, while fatboybakes was the last to arrive. Everyone had the nasi dagang, 'cept precious pea who had the nasi lemak. The nasi dagang was served piping hot, with a side of ikan tongkol (local mackerel)and pickled cucumber. The rice was nice and fragrant, slightly sticky (from the glutinous rice, I presumed), tasty indeed. The fish curry however, was slightly diluted.. would have been better if it was creamier and sweeter. Boo asked the waitress on the type of nasi dagang served, they said it was Kelantanese style.
Wmw ordered a side of curry puffs, but I was too stuffed to try that. They said it's rather spicy, nice nonetheless.
Lemongrass and I wanted to try the roti sambal, which arrived only 1 hour later, after 4 reminders... Not sure if it was prepared some time back, or that it turned cold after rounds of photo sessions (by us of course), the toasted bread was rather hard and dry. Not that enticing. Sambal was yummy though..
Guess it was more of a morning of bantering (for most of them, I was the rather shy one, erm, I think..hehe), over the very noisy surroundings and trying to listen to who talking what..Like Kenny said, food bloggers are jolly, happy people, how can I possibly be bored? ;-)
Village Park is located at 5, Jalan SS21/37, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Take note though, it can get really crowded on weekends (mornings) and the service you get can be below average.
p/s- Lyrical lemongrass, thanks for all your effort for making this gathering possible! *muaks*

6 to 10 Grill and Nasi Lemak, Sek 17

It was another wet day... has been raining every evening
We were restless, could not make up our mind on where and what to eat.. :(.
Finally, we decided to makan at 6 to 10 since we wanted to try it for sometime already. Always passed by the place when we are going to Food Foundry but somehow never got around to it....
Though it was a wet evening, 6 to 10 was pretty pack when we reach. We quickly settled for a seat and browsed through the menu.. 6 to 10 serves mainly western food, but nasi lemak seems to be a rather popular dish too as many were happily tucking in to their nasi lemak.. SF, P and I decided to have nasi lemak with dishes of curry chicken, sambal sotong and beef rendang respectively. SL decided to have the gargantuan red wine grilled pork ribs..
I was hungry and I thought ordering nasi lemak would be the fastest, but I was wrong! Guess loads of people ordered nasi lemak too and we waited for a while before we got ours.. The nasi lemak looked ok...the usual nasi, ikan bilis and peanuts, a dollop of sambal and half a hard boiled egg.. I took a mouthful and....it was not as good as I thot :(. The beef rendang was slightly tough and sambal did not have enough 'kick'.P's sambal sotong was so so, she said she tasted better. SF was also ok with the curry chicken. What SF said was rite, this is a 'chinese' nasi lemak, not as much oommpphh compared to the malay's. Hope you get what I meant.. :p
Finally, SL's huge pork ribs came and I must say that it's better than the nasi lemak. The ribs were smothered with this red-wine-pineapple sauce, served with chips, corn and some salad.. I stole a bite (thanks SL!) of the pork ribs and it was pretty good. You could taste the subtle taste of wine in the sauce, the pork ribs had this springy texture and its sweet yet tender at the same time. Like those served in Meaty House in Uptown. I guess their forte should be western grill rather than nasi lemak. I saw quite a lot of newspaper articles around the restaurant, all framed up since the 90's. If I didnt recalled wrongly (from what I read in one of the articles), 6 to 10 has been in the business since 17 years ago....Yup, that many years :p

What Julianne thinks?
Reasonably priced but mediocre
