Deli Cafe and Bakery, Kota Damansara

We were at the mechanic shop as Bollywood Queen need to get something for her car..
While waiting and whiling away our time, I recalled there is a place for bread and drinks around this area..Just not sure where and what it's called..
But no harm asking right? So I tried my best to describe to taukay's wife...
Toast bread, kaya? Erm, name of place starts with D?
Oh, that's just behind our shop!
Man, am I lucky or what? hahaha..should have bought lottery ;p
And so we went to the back- it's passed lunch time but still packed with customers..
We were not keen on any of the nasi goreng/ lemak/ mee goreng etc..Just wanted a drink and bread.
Since they bake their own hainanese bread, we ordered a steamed and toasted kaya butter bread.
The wait was not long...
Steamed bread with kaya and butter..
Super piping hot, it was hard to hold and to take a bite. The bread was soft, yet had a lovely chewy, springy texture to it, giving a more solid feel to the bread rather than the usual airy types.  The kaya was creamy and smooth, the amount was just right to go with the bread. Yummeh!

The toasted bread was served soon after..
Browned toast with a nice thick cut of butter. I likey :). The toast had a light crisp exterior and charred flavour. Bread texture was lighter compared to its steamed counterpart, yet still lovely to sink my teeth into. Though I am usually partial to toasted bread, Deli Cafe's steamed version was simply delish and a notch up the crisp brother (my preference la!).
Definitely coming back to try the round kaya butter buns on my next visit :)

Deli Cafe and Bakery is located at 57-G, Jalan Sepah Puteri 5/1B, PJU 5, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Sun Yin Loong, Kota Damansara

How was your sunday?
Mine was relaxing, started off with late breakfast at Sun Yin Loong with Jane.
And why there?
Jane wanted something close to home (town), and Sun Yin Loong has the ipoh white coffee which was very similar to those she can get back in Ipoh.
I ordered a cuppa for myself..
It was thick and aromatic, every sip was delicious. No wonder Jane's dad approves the coffee here.
The half boiled egg on toast..
Loved how it glistened under the sun light. Too bad the yolk was hidden, would have looked perfect if the yolk peeked out a little :p.

Add dash of pepper, drizzle some soy sauce and break the yolk...
Served on buttered, thick toast (hainanese bread)- the broken yolk was absorbed into the toast almost immediately. Yummy.
I had the pork noodles..
Supposedly from a famous stall in Ipoh Road..guess it didnt live up to the fame? It was very average. The sauce was too sweet, think they overloaded on the MSG.
Jane's char kuay teow fared better..
As per most kopitiam, you need to wait rather long for the CKT.. coz it's usually a popular order. Though the order was quite long, Jane got her's in ok time. Quite a lot of ingredients and had some wok hei. Jane was happy with it, said that it's not too salty and the noodles were thinner and smoother. (she guessed it might be from ipoh too :p)
Sun Yin Loong is located at 2A-1 & 2-1 (GF), Jalan PJU 5/7, PJU 5, Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara, 47810 Petaling Jaya.

Kluang Rail Coffee, Kluang, Johor

When my brother's GF first visited my hometown in Kluang, one of the thing that she looked forward to was to sample the food at Kluang Station.
But us being the lazy bones decided to drag the visit until the day we were due to return to KL :p.
Not too enthusiastic on our end eh? huhu
Anyways, we were there one late morning...
Some Kluang Station Coffee to wake us up?
Have it hot or iced?
Aromatic, a tad sweet, but a good wake up call. Though I'd still go for Kopi Cap TV if it's coffee from Kluang..hehe
The Roti Bakar
The bread's slightly dry, the kaya and butter was pretty good.
The Toasted Bun (white bread) was much tastier..
Bread was nicely charcoaled, had that slight smoky aroma, and was still soft inside. Though lacked kaya, they served the bread with sliced butter instead of spreading it. I love butter served in toasts in such a manner as you bite into hot bread, melting kaya and then the cooling effect of the chilled butter ,ending with a salty sweet note. Yums.
We also had the Toasted Bun (wholemeal bread)
I actually like this the best as the charcoal brings out the fragrance of the wholemeal bread. Great combination with kaya and butter.
So we asked Shirley on her thoughts after trying the Kluang Rail Coffee in Kluang. It was ok... Guessed she expected more?

I just realised I didnt take down the address. Sorry folks! But here's the picture..This branch is located right in the centre of the town, you wont miss it. And yes, the original branch is located at the Kluang Railway Station (KTM). There's more variety of mains at this branch though.

Kedai Kopi Hai Peng, Chukai

Do I really need to blog about this? Hai Peng is so famous that maybe I should not blog about it...
But, for the benefit of those who have never heard of Hai Peng, I shall trudge on...hehe
Hai Peng oozes nostalgia, with the furniture and the ambience of old fashion kopitiam. Always packed with an eclectic mix of locals and tourists, Hai Peng serves a range of roti bakar (toast), kuih muih (malay snack), nasi lemak, nasi dagang etc.
We had the Kopi Hai Peng.... I like this strong, cukup kau (thick) coffee which I understand why some people are so crazy over this little cuppa.
Blur Butterfly decided to have some latte, which she was not too please with... Maybe it's too thick to be latte? I took a sip, thot it tasted alright, though there's a strong hint of cinnamon...
Bubbly Alicia opted for teh ais (ice milk tea) which was served sealed with Hai Peng's logo at the cover. Good way to prevent messy spills from iced drinks... Tea was thick and quite aromatic..
The old fashioned charcoal toast aka roti bakar was served next..
Thick toasts smothered with kaya (local coconut & egg jam) and butter served hot, we quickly grabbed a piece each. Though the bread was home made, I was not too impress with the bread. More doughy than usual, their bread seemed like a cross between sourdough and bread. hmmmm
Next was the toasted buns served with kaya and butter too.. Again, I was not very impress with the buns. Too thick, chewy and bland for my liking.
Bubbly Alicia wanted something savoury, so she ordered the curry toast... For RM5.90, this was way too costly for a slice of toast, egg and dhal sauce. Yes, you read right, dhal. Well, at least it tasted like dhal as I could not find any semblance of curry in it.
Took a nasi lemak bungkus as we wanted to have some rice.. Now this was yummy stuff, tasty, spicy sambal ikan bilis goes really well with the rice and hard boiled egg..
We did return on another day, extra stuff we tried was the Hai Peng Ice Blended Special... Beats all the franchised coffee chain's ice blended hands down. The coffee was strong, aromatic, ice was blended finely, the sweetness was well balanced with the bitterness of the coffee..just perfecto..
We had the nasi dagang too (usually sold off before 12 noon), pretty tasty, the sauce on the heavier side of ginger and asam, but goes well with the rice. No picture on this, you can see it hiding behind my cup of ice blended though.. :)
What Julianne thinks?
Killer coffees not to be missed, yumz for the rice dishes, mediocre for the toasts
Kedai Kopi Hai Peng is located at corner of Jalan Dato Omar (the main trunk road from Kuantan-Cherating-Cukai-Kijal-Kerteh) and Jalan Sulaimani, one of the main roads at Chukai, Terengganu. If you still cant find it, just ask a local. Everyone there knows where Hai Peng is..
