Restoran Makanan Laut Zhen Liew Siang, Sentul Raya

It was raining heavily.
Followed by a horrendous jam, near accident and a series of lost and finally found, Vincent eventually managed to lead us there.
We were having the famed Sentul pork knuckle, something that Vincent had mention for umpteen times until we were so sick of it.
Vince didnt take too long to order; he knew what he wanted us to try..
Of course the first dish we had was the pork knuckle..
The large pork knuckle was served on a creamy concoction, so that the skin at the top part remains crisp. The skin was thin and crisp, like those you get on suckling pg. As it's served immediately after deep frying, the layer of fat underneath the skin was melt-in-mouth and the meat was moist and tender. The accompanying sauce was heavy; creamy sour plumish-cream based. A wee bit of sauce complements the meat; too much and it gets way too rich.
Most unfortunately, I didnt know what was ordered (i went to the ladies); I was in for a very sinful meal that night.
Next up was the seafood with special sauce serve on hot plate.
Consisting of squids and prawns, it's served piping hot with spicy cream sauce which was very tasty at the first bite. But as I took more of it, it gets rather taxing for the tastebuds.
Luckily I got a break with some stir fried vegetables..
Simple, light and sweet.
Alas, my light dish was short lived when they placed a huge claypot of curry fish head right in front of me.
Vincent was happily tucking in, very satisfied with this dish. I, on the otherhand, find the curry diluted while Jo said the fishiness was too much for her. An average curry in my opinion.
I guess if I do come for a meal again; I'll order lighter dishes to complement the knuckle. This meal was just too overwhelming for me :p
Total bill was RM102 inclusive of drinks.

Bavarian Bierhaus, The Curve, Mutiara Damansara

How was your Chinese New Year?

Mine was pretty much a routine; feast, watch TV, nap, snack (while watching TV), feast, sleep..for a week! Gosh, I'm still amazed that I've only piled on 1 pound (thank god!), though I feel real fat now..hahaha

Since it's lots of meat and fatty stuff during the CNY, I might as well continue with some meaty post :p

Sweet friends of mine bought me a belated birthday dinner last month and since we were catching a movie at Cineleisure, we decided to have dinner at Bavarian Bierhaus..
We were seated very quickly, menu promptly placed on our table..
Some salad before we attack the meat..hence the Pancetta salad (Rm15). I love the sweet tangy vinaigrette dressing they used; tossed with tomatoes, french beans, quail eggs, tuna chunks and topped with pancetta; makes this a really appetising salad. Very nice indeed, though the serving was a tad small..
Andrew insisted to have the Pork Knuckle with garlic and herb sauce (RM52), rather than the more popular Pork Knuckle with Smoked Bacon and Honey–Pepper Glaze with Sauerkraut and Sautéed Potatoes.
Bavarian Bierhaus's Pork Knuckle looks gorgeous, sitting prettily on a bed of mash; I'm not sure if it's due to the dim lights, but, it almost, just almost, took my breath away.. The skin was very crispy and we were fighting for the biggest piece..haha..drizzled with the creamy garlic sauce; it was utterly sinful but we yearned for more..
Elaine wanted me to share the shot of the tender meat..I was very glad that the meat was juicy and tender; eating it was so fuss free. By far, this was one of the best I've tried as the meat have a lovely smoky flavour which blends so well with the sauce. Just perfect.
Before we could further gorge ourselves with more pork knuckle, the Mix Sausages Platter (RM58) was placed on our table.. About 6-7 sausages of various varieties and sizes, this dish was beckoning us to devour it. My fave was the lamb sausage; the gamey lamb flavour was enticing; got me hooked the moment I sinked my teeth into it. The other pork sausages (I'm not sure of the names) were pretty good; one was spicier (could that be chorizo?), another was a tad sweet (like taiwanese sausages) but all goes well with the various dollop of sauces at the base of the plate. There were 2 types of mustard sauce, mint sauce, mayonnaise with herbs/ spices which complemented the sausages very well. The least popular was the white coloured sausage (is that veal sausage?) which was rather soft for our liking..
Downed some beers and drinks, we were real stuffed by the time we wiped everything clean..hehe
Thanks Andrew, Elaine and WF for the wonderful dinner and lovely company. And the pictures we took there? Priceless..
Am still laughing everytime I look at it :D

Deutsches Gasthaus 2, TTDI

Gary wanted to have some western herbal tea some time ago and I had my carnivorous calling hence he suggested Deutsches Gasthaus for some food and drinks.
Somehow, I could hear Homer chanting Pork Knuckles...pork knuckles..hahaha
The 4 of us decided to share the Pork Knuckle and Grilled Platter..
First to come was Grilled Platter..Mix grilled chicken, lamb, steak and sausage served with fries and salad..The lamb was absolutely scrumptious..In fact, too little to go around for sharing *sniffs*. The chicken was too dry though. The rest of the meat was ok, but nothing fantastic..
Humongous Pork Knuckle was next..The pork was tender, some part was nicely done that it was succulent..I was a tad disappointed with the skin though..Some part was roasted nicely; crunchy crispy..just lovely to sink my teeth into. Other parts; the skin was rather..erm..chewy.
Gary and Candy..once we unleashed the carnivores, we just cant stop them..hehe..
They decided to order rib eye done medium rare to share..I managed to steal a small bite of it :p..The texture was lovely; really tasty indeed..definitely assuaged their meaty craving..
And how Not to end the meal with some cooling beer and yakking the night away?? Total bill was about RM220 (i think)..including the biers*hic*...
