Nambawan Cafe, Taman Sri Manja, PJ

When Bollywood Queen told me about Nambawan, the first impression I had was that it serves asian food. Nambawan just reminds me of someone who can't pronounce Number 1 properly, hence nambawan.
Very much deceived, Nambawan serves western food, at very reasonable prices.
A simple restaurant, Nambawan is akin to Papa Chops Mama Grill, but better quality.
What Bollywood Queen raved about the very cheap Cod main dish....
So we ordered..
It's called New Zealand Milk Cod
For RM8.90, I was rather impressed by the presentation. The side salad was very fresh and colourful, there were 2 slices of fish and the roast potatoes looks very appetizing. The balsamic lemon sauce whetted our appetite and I must say, this is quite tasty. The texture of the fish was rather coarse though, and was not as fatty as the usual cod. Hmmm, is this really a type of cod fish? I'm not sure.
I didn't know what to order and was recommended the Roast Pork Belly(RM12.90), a dish that's only available on weekends.. The serving was very generous, 3 big slices of roast pork, served with the same sides as the cod dish. The roast pork's colouring was lovely, still pink and moist. The crunchy pork skin was sprinkled all over the pork slices; eaten together with the roast pork and sauce, the combination was delicious. Oh, the roast potatoes were also very scrumptious, great to mop up the rather addictive gravy.
The Grilled Lamb with Butter mint sauce was served last (RM12.90)
The butter mint sauce was fragrant though it gets pretty oily when it's fully melted. The lamb's slightly overcooked, hence meat's on the tough side (though i do like the charred lamb fats on the sides :p).
Total bill was RM36.44. Sure was good value for decent western food.
Nambawan Cafe is located at No. 10, Jalan PJS 3/48, Manja Square, Taman Sri Manja, Batu 6 1/2, Off Jalan Kelang Lama, Petaling Jaya.

RM8.90 for cod fish and it's in PJ???
You gotta be kidding me..
I mean, we usually pay like 5-6 times of that price for a single piece of cod fish which comes with pretty decoration and on a really big plate...but that's in those exclusive dining places.
Elsewhere, this is like a rare exotic specialty dish which can't be found in those western cafes which serve you affordable set lunches because dory fish always dominates the menu.

Too bad the flesh is coarse though, but I guess we can't set too high of an expectation when we are paying for something almost half the price.
Who knows, it may not really be cod fish and they're just putting the name there to get your attention and of course, your interest to order it....the things people would do to improve their business!
But then again, it did work since psychologically, you were curious after all that it's cod fish at this price, right?:D
And that's all that matters.....

and agree that the prices are kept to a minimum. even by Ipoh's standards, the dishes are reasonable enough.

Roast Pork is now RM13.90 and there is a 5% service charge. What a wait for a not so hot food. The chips were hot but not the meat.
