Vbest Tea House, Soho Central, Hong Kong
Vbest Tea House was a last minute suggestion by SF; we were tired and wanted dinner nearby..
They serve delicious smoked duck there, was SF's reply
Their homemade pork wantans (HKD55)
They serve delicious smoked duck there, was SF's reply
The restaurant was rather quiet, it's located at the less crowded area off Soho. SF said it's crowded during lunch hour as it's quite near the central business district..
Decided to have some soup first...Fish broth with bak choy and sliced pork (HKD55). The soup was simply divine; it was smooth, from hours of boiling I presume. The fish broth was a comfort to drink, the sweetness from the pork slices and veg complemented the savoury soup perfectly.
Their homemade pork wantans (HKD55)
This was an average dish. The skin was way too thick and pork filling, sparse. Can skip this.
The Mah Poh tau foo (HKD68)
Vbest's version was infused with mah lat spicy szechuan pepper corns; every mouthful earns us a numb tongue for few seconds. The smooth tau foo neutralizes it fairly quickly though. A slightly piquant dish, might not be everyone's cup of tea.
The highly anticipated Smoked Duck (HKD85)..
Such a pretty sight! The wait was definitely worth it; every slice of the duck was absolutely delectable! The luscious duck meat was beautifully marinated; tender meat , a sliver of melting fat in between the crisp, aromatic skin sent me straight to seventh heaven. Bliss.
Stir fried snow peas with ear wood fungus (HKD55)..
The vegetables was extremely fresh and sweet; and it was full of wok hei. Very tasty indeed!
Vbest Tea House is located at 17 Elgin Street, Soho, Central, Hong Kong.

Vbest ... kinda funny name. :)
you're lucky to have a fren so well-versed with good food in HK.
oh shit..i think ordering the duck will do for me..and some white rice!
j2kfm: yes, if you look at the facade of the restaurant, you'll find it even weirder for such name. am still counting my blessings to have many friends who love food just as much as me ;)
joe: hahaha, dont have to start with a curse la :p yes, just duck and white rice will be lovely. not sure if one plate if enough for you though..the slices are quite, erm, delicate :)
The duck was the main draw to get you there wasn't it? :)
Funny thing is it is supposed to be very good for tea too, remember all the many different types of chinese tea in the menu? But who cares about tea when there is duck?? Haha
sends slivers of shivers down my spine , that duck;)
Haven't tried smoked duck like that yet. Looks like pork belly so it has to be way delicious.

sf: yes, you had me at 'smoked duck' hahaha. actually, we were served some good tea i guess, i was checking the receipt again and our pot of tea costs us HKD120
cumi&ciki: hahaha, me too, me too!
tummythoz: there is a western version in klang valley, ie, smoke duck salad? but cant be compared to this dish at all..scrumptious.
woah, i can smell the smoked duck from across the causeway already!!! the pink is so tantalizing!!!
did you try the fish maw dumpling while you were in hk? i lurved it! :)
Mmm... the smoked duck really looked so yummy! and so nicely arranged too!
The smoked duck looks really really good lor and price very reasonable also (hk standard la).
One thing I realize from this post is that what really matters isn't fancy cooking but down-to-earth good ingredients and time taken... Looks completely yummilicious, dear. :)
nic: fish maw dumpling? no wor..where to try those? at dim sum place?
pureglutton: yup, appealing to the eyes and palette!
pea: food pricing is ok la, but tea is not cheap in this restaurant.
kenny: spot on! fresh ingredients and patience makes some potent dishes i tell ya ;p
