Sweets from Vietnam and Hong Kong
My brother came back from Ho Chi Minh city recently and brought back quite a lot of barangs for me..
One interesting foodstuff was the sweets..
He bought 3 types, recommended by his vietnamese friend..
The mixed mango soursop sweet (me mang cau), tamarind sweet (me say chua) and soursop sweet (mang cau say). These are handmade sweets, tasted somewhat like dried fruits mixed with jam. My fave would be the pure soursop sweet..Each sweet had a soursop seed in it. So cute. Lovely texture, slightly fiberous, sour and sweet at the same time and very fragrant.
My boss passed me some sweets from Hong Kong recently too..
She said it's salty. Eh? Sweets that's salty?Looks deceptive eh? Like any candy you see in shops..But, this is no sweet. It's dried, shredded fish..Savoury, tasted like a cross between pork floss and serunding ikan. Though it's salty, must say that this is quite a tasty snack. I wont call it a sweet though..hehe
