Restoran Jaya, SS5, PJ

Early morning and I met Diha for breakfast before we went for our appointment..
She wanted me to try a place nearby; a place her family go to if they wanted a quick, satisfying kelantanese breakfast.
We ended at Restoran Jaya...
The food spread, though not extensive, looks fresh and inviting..
Diha had some nasi kerabu with chicken..
By the speed she was gobbling it down in gusto, I believe it's good?

I had lontong..
The soup was too sweet for my liking; the nasi impit was a tad under cook, but the sambal sotong's delicious though. More peanut sauce would have been better. Gerai Cek Nor's lontong is definitely way better..
Some pulut pagi
Very sweet like any other kelantanese kuih I guess..Fragrant with gula melaka and very soft. Rather lovely I must say.

We also had roti canai, which I didnt take a picture of..
But let me tell ya, the kuah dhall kari for the roti was fabulous! It's the best I've had in Klang Valley so far, really reminds me of the delicious kuah served in Kelantan/ Terengganu whenever I have roti there..yum yum.

Restoran Jaya is located at 15, Jalan SS 5B/6, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Fogal Meat Market, Sri Hartamas, KL

For my birthday last year end, my friends decided that I should have a lot of meat...
Wah, that's the impression they get of me? ._."
Hmmm, ok ok less meat this year :p
Anyways, what's planned and what's eaten was last year, so here's the food ;)
Jeremy was at Fogal's early, so he had some garlic bread first..
Nicely toasted, garlicky and butterish. Good.
We decided to have the platter for 4, but as jeremy dont take beef; he ordered a side of sausages..
He chose pork and lamb sausages with sides of wedges and greens..Both the sausages were juicy and tasty, the wedges were crisp on the outside, but with fluffy potatoes on the inside..
Then came the meat platter..
Gosh, the amount of meat looks rather intimidating..
There's 2 types of sausages, 2 kebabs, pork bacons, lamb burger patty, lamb chops, pork chop, beef steak and served with sides of chips, mash and coleslaw. Quite a mouthful eh?
We decided to have the chorizo and some lamb+pork sausage. The chorizo (the darker reddish one) was yummy; juicy and spicy, the meat was springy. I find the other sausage too salty though. Lamb burger patty was tasty; tender and moist, cooked just right. The pork bacon was just so so. Beef steak was overcooked and rather hard. Same for pork chop, I find it rather dry and hard at some parts. Need to douse it with apple sauce.. Both the lamb and pork kebabs were fine, quite tender but nothing to shout about. As for the lamb chops, so parts were just nice, while other parts were rather hard.. Sides were average too.
Phew. So much meat.
I guess it's better to order the specific type of meat you want at Fogal's than to have the platter. Somehow I get the impression that all the meat were dunked at the griller and cooked together. But each meat needs to be given different cooking time and attention to get the optimum texture and flavour, no?
Fogal Meat Market is located at N-1-4, Plaza Damas, No. 60, Jalan Sri Hartamas, Sri Hartamas, 50480, Kuala Lumpur.

Athena, Pavillion KL

Should have posted this ages ago, since we bought Abner's BD dinner a few months back :p
It was after work and we happened to be near Pavillion, so where else but to makan at Pavillion.
Dinner was at Athena, which serves Mediterranean cuisine...
We decided to have some smoke salmon salad..
Quite a lovely portion, would have been better if it was a tad larger bowl. hahaha. Smoked salmon rosettes were tasty, served on a bed of fresh salad and vinaigrette, it's good.
Jo said she's on a diet, she'll be eating more salad..
So, in order to tempt her out of her diet, abner, eric and i decided to order the seafood platter for 4...hehe
Hmmm, are they sure it's for 4? Looks more like for 2..well, at least for those who eats like me? :p. Grilled prawns, fish and squids in butter garlic sauce. Squeeze some lemon juice on it and it's perfect. Seafood's fresh; the sauce complements the seafood well though quite sinful. Even Jo was tempted out of her diet and ate a hearty share too :p
The grilled seafood was served with chips..To add more to the sinful meal I guess.
Athena is located at Lot C3.05, Third Floor, The Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur.

Gerai Cek Nor Cita Rasa, Section 14, PJ

Bollywood Queen has been raving about this delicious lontong at Section 14 for few months, but busy schedule and lazy me who's not willing to wake up early on weekends to savour it missed it weeks after weeks..
So I did finally managed to drag myself up this sunday, we reached Section 14 by about 10 am.
The queue was already there..patient, hungry patrons all waiting to get their food.
There were also many take aways, so it took us quite some time to get our lontongs..
We decided to order the semua aka 'all in' :p (RM7.00)
Means we had all the side dish, the sotong, the beef rendang, sliced paru (beef lungs) goreng and hard boiled egg
Looks good? Taste even better I tell ya. The total combo was just perfect; the moist nasi impit, the sayur lemak soup (which was not too sweet), the spicy sweet sambal sotong, the tender rendang, the beef jerky taste alike paru and topped with kerisik (dessicated coconut) and peanut sauce. Delicious. I ate everything; to the very last drop of the soup.
Gerai Cek Nor Cita Rasa is located at Jalan 14/20 Section 14, 46100 Petaling Jaya. It's the food court located next to Digital Mall, take the entrance between the Digital Mall and KFC Restaurant. Once you enter the food court area, you wont miss it with the long queue it has.

Restaurant Hung Kee, KL

Went down to KL with Abner for brunch and erm, then later for lunch? One of those pigging out days again..
He wanted me to try a famous wantan mee at Loke Yew and soon I find myself at Hung Kee.
Hey I've been here years back!
Abner's face fell, I felt so bad actually.
But I've only been here once and was actually told that it's good for char siew rice, not the wantan noodles. Never tried the wantan noodles before, I quickly added
Ah, my redemption :p
Since I was 'misled' years back that Hung Kee was famed for char siew rice; I definitely had to try the wantan noodles.
The wantan noodles looks yummy
It's really springy, definitely had the QQ texture that is so very important in wantan noodles. The sauce base was very old school, but done wonderfully. The char siew was good, it's the more solid meat type, not the melt-in-mouth char siews.
What's amazing for me was the wantan serving that came with my noodles..
The norm serving would be 3 pieces of wantans? They gave me 6 juicy, well marinated pork wantan. Delicious. :)
Abner had roast pork wantan noodles..
Same yummy noodles, but the roast pork was not very impressive. Oh, and he got less wantans...3 wantans if you have wantan noodles with roast pork :p
Restaurant Hung Kee is located at 28-5, 28-6, Jalan Loke Yew, Pudu, Kuala Lumpur.

Godiva Chocolatier, Pavillion KL

We were shopping at Pavillion when Bollywood Queen called to join us..
After an hour or so or shopping, Bollywood Queen suggested to have drinks at Godiva; to rest our legs and for a sweet treat.
On me, Bollywood Queen declared, making this an even sweeter treat ;)
SL wanted something hot, so she ordered Chocolate Hazelnut
Smooth chocolate drink with hazelnut bits. Rich, a tad sweet, it's a delicious drink filled with chocolate and hazelnut aroma.
I had Dark Chocolate Raspberry
The dark chocolate was rich and creamy, the raspberry sauce added some tartness to this else sugar sweet drink. The drink was filled with dark chocolate and raspberry bits, very sinful drink indeed.
Bollywood Queen had the Chocolate Decadence, and thinking that may not have time to finish her drink before her next appointment, she asked for takeaway.
Aptly named, this drink sure was decadent. This was so rich and sinful, I felt bad even having a sip of it..hehehe. Of course Bollywood Queen enjoyed it tremendously.
Farid and Irwan joined us later....
Farid had Machiatto..
All of us find the sugar really pretty looking :)
We do agree that one serve of these stirrers was way too much for Farid's small cup of Machiatto.
Irwan's order, Chocolate Chilli
First sip, the subtle spiciness hits my taste buds immediately, while seconds later, the rich chocolate soothes the flavours to end it with a sweet note.
Most of the drinks costs about RM16. There's also a selection of cakes and chocolates at the counter that you can order from.
Godiva Chocolatier is located at Pavillion Kuala Lumpur. There's also a branch at KLCC (only for takeaways).

Ikan Bakar Parameswara, Melaka

Happy New Year everyone!
It' a brand new year and hope that things will just get better now :)
I've just wrapped up my HK trip, just noticed that my Melaka post...there's still one more to go..
We decided to have dinner at Umbai before we leave Melaka.
I ate at Umbai 8 years back, at that time, there were only a couple of stalls located just next to the river, with not much road and no street lights. Though it was dark everywhere, a local friend led us and we had a wonderful meal of grilled fish, otak otak, piping hot nasi lemak and down it with fresh coconut drink.

Eager to have this excellent meal at Umbai again, we made our way there..
I should not be surprised that now the road is tarred, the place is well lighted and there are many, many stalls there. After so many years, it should be better developed right? The problem is, which was the original stall that I went before? :(

Andrew called his local friend, and he recommended Ikan Bakar Parameswara..
This was the last stall at the whole row, and was very packed..
We got a table and went over to the counter to select our seafood. After having instructed the cooking method for each seafood, we went back to our table, which was placed with otak otak and nasi lemak bungkus..
The nasi lemak..
It was cold and mediocre. I was sad
The otak otak
Though served piping hot, this tasted very, erm, manufactured and factory like. Bad. I knew by now that Parameswara was definitely Not the stall I went to 8 years back :(
The grilled squids
One can hardly go wrong with this. Nicely grilled, lovely charred bits and smoky flavour. Pity that the squid's quite small though.
Very large plate of grilled prawns..
Sweet springy meat with slightly salty shell, grilled crisp and smoky. Pretty good.
Got ourselves a rather big siakap..
We chose to have it done tiga rasa (three flavours). It was alright, quite nice, but not fantastically good.
Some deep fried squids
Didnt like the batter as it's those with 'flavoured' flour. Had some 'vanilla' fragrance to it that I dont fancy.
Finished off the dinner with some fried kang kung ..
Too salty and saucy.
Total bill was RM115 including coconut drinks, nasi lemak and white rice. Used to be cheaper.
We figured Parameswara is so popular because it's the only stall facing the sea?
Ikan Bakar Parameswara is located at Pengkalan Pulau Besar, Pernu, Umbai, 75460 Melaka.
